Ten Diagrams on Holy Learning and Spinoza's Ethics provide the philosophical foundations for understanding feelings; the 64 hexagrams provide the field in which that logic is examined through the changes of life.
The course does not treat feeling as an accidental psychological state. It examines feeling as something that arises and changes within relations among human beings, nature, self, others, and situations. After establishing the basic logic of the Science of Feelings through Toegye Yi Hwang's Ten Diagrams on Holy Learning and Spinoza's Ethics, this semester reads Hexagrams 01–36, from 乾 through 明夷. Weeks 02–07 and 09–14 cover three hexagrams per session, Week 08 reviews Hexagrams 01–18, and Week 15 synthesizes Hexagrams 01–36. Hexagrams 37–64 continue in the following semester.
