The history of modern Western philosophy is reconsidered as a history of attempts to understand human feeling and life.
Through major works from Descartes to Martin Luther King Jr., the course examines body and mind, desire and feeling, freedom and education, labour and capital, religion and society, science and technology. It asks how each thinker understood human nature and happiness, and critically considers both the achievements and limitations of these philosophical accounts from the perspective of the Science of Feelings.
